| | Wonder Worker: Lisa Sarsfield When: February 2011 Intro: Lisa Sarsfield has been nominated as the ARRC Wildlife Wonder Worker, much to her surprise, as she says that she has done very little. Well, not only does our wildlife in New Zealand appreciate what she has done but so does everyone at ARRC. Lisa says she read about ARRC through the Sun Media local newspaper and decided that she wanted to be involved. So she and her three children, Pearl - 9 years old, Jacob- 11 years old and Tui 13 years attended the Wildlife First Aid training that was held late 2010 at the ARRC Rehabilitation Centre Oropi.. This course was run by Dr Liza Schneider our resident vet and Chrissie Jefferson ARRC Rehabilitation Manager. With a love of birds Lisa and family felt they could make a difference. She points out that people think they need specialised equipment but all she has is two cat cages wired together to create a double storey ‘hospital’ cage. She says that she feels confident having done the training and is now able to use these skills to make a difference in the lives of injured animals. Lisa lives in rural Oropi and reflects on times when she has gone into town to fetch an injured bird and has returned with many more. It is great to see and hear the passion this family has for this cause and she says that she would like to make others aware that rehabilitation is rewarding and certainly does not take up a lot of time and encourages others to become involved. Thank you for your commitment and dedication, New Zealand is a better place because of the contribution made by you and your family. I also have no doubt that your children have a greater appreciation for wildlife and we thank you for your support. Bev Cruywagen ARRC Trustee |
