How you can help!

ARRC is always on the lookout for people who are willing to offer assistance in the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife which includes transport, care and donations of valuable supplies (such as aviaries, food, towels, etc.) or financial support by donation or business sponsorship.

Donations that we receive are used by our organisation to continue our work caring for our wildlife as well as to educate people on the importance of preserving our natural heritage.

What to do with an injured animal!

Approach it quietly and calmly. Young birds that are fledged and can hop away usually have their parents nearby and are best left alone but may be placed up in a nearby a tree. Use a towel or sheet to cover their head and for birds, enclose their wings to prevent flapping.
Gently, but firmly pick them up holding their wings against their bodies. With hawks, owls and tuis be careful of their claws as they can grip very tightly. With herons, gannets and gulls be wary of their sharp beaks.
Place the animal in a box that doesn’t allow for too much movement and has holes in for ventilation with newspaper or an old towel lining the bottom. Put in a warm (not hot) and quiet place, away from cats and dogs and give us a call:
Tauranga (07) 578 7054
Rotorua (07) 349 2955.

When transporting birds in a vehicle be sure to have the radio/tape off and close car doors quietly.
